What Your Teacher Didn’t Tell You

with 2 comments

Attended book launch at Annexe Gallery yesterday — Dr. Farish A. Noor’s “What Your Teacher Didn’t Tell You: The Annexe Lectures Vol.1”.

There’s some musical and poetry performances before Farish and Sara (the 5-years-old fairy child) launch his latest book.

The usual literature crowd is there — Sharon Bakar, Dina Zaman, Ahmad Kamal Abu Bakar and of course Amir Muhammad. Oh, happy birthday to you and Walt Disney (December 5, 1901) too.

Some picture that I snapped can be found at the Facebook Event Page.

Managed to get Dizzy & The (Liyana & Alia) 200th self-titled EP (Juice Magazine’s Best Spoken Word Album of 2009). Got Liy and Alia to scribble the “lastest and specialest CD” too.

On a different note: I knew Liy from Hazeryl, who’s my ex-housemate 2 years ago, and my office is just nearby IMU. Been meaning to attend their gig, but my offshore work pretty much destroy that dreams. It’s just a sheer coincidences they were in for the second opening performance before the book launch. The first opening performance of the acoustic guitar is wonderful, pity I forgot the guitarist name. (UPDATE: Pang Kee Teik said “His name is Sherry”, Dizzy said “Sharidir” — “…he usually performs with Nizam and I think he’s really good”)

Here’s youtube video that I uploaded. Re-encoded from 1920×1080 to 640×360 (16:9), original 30 fps, 4080kbps bitrate, with H.264/AVC video codec. I apologize for the vibration due to hand-held caption in nature, I didn’t bring a monopod nor tripod:

Splurge around RM1.6k at The Gardens in a day before attending the book launch. Replacing my worn out shoes, wallet, belt and mouse. Most of them aging from 5 years to 17 years (the faithful leather wallet). Been eyeing Camper’s Pelotas at the boutique, sadly it have pig skin lining, bah humbug! Here’s funny excerpt from the facebook regarding Camper vs Rockport:

I’ve been to Camper outlet before Rockport at The Gardens. Most of the leather shoes, including my favourite Pelotas design have pig skin lining — that’s why it’s the most comfortable shoes in the whole wide world!

Rockport only uses the best baby skin lining — cannibalized from the abortion clinic. Comfy!

Oink, oink!

Got the free Starbucks 2010 Planner too, well, not really free — need to consume a couple of 2 shots of espresso (grande size) coffee before hand. Thank you Alin, Nana and Mel at Starbucks Miri for the warm welcome at the Miri Airport — best Starbucks manager cum barista ever, and I only say that because of the free drinks and dinner. Hahaha!

The shopping and the social life apart. Sue didn’t come to the event (book launch), and from her reply, I don’t think we going to cross our path too soon.

This is my last reply. I will not contact you any longer. The past is no longer relevant for me now as I’m already focusing on the horrible present and uncertain future.

Packing for Singapore. Preparing for next job in Indian Ocean and Gulf of Thailand.

Looks like my 4 months worth of offshore leaves stay as my 3 month resignation leaves plus 1 month diving holiday at Bora-Bora Island — yeah, right!

Who’s Gonna Save My Soul Now

A scene from Who’s Gonna Save My Soul? by Gnarls Barkley.

Well now that you have my heart I’m pretty much an empty cavity inside. For lack of a better term, heartless. I will now treat each woman I meet with a passive aggressive contentiousness that will ruin relationship after relationship for many years to come.

Baby D, you’re my new mate now. A freaking expensive one too with EFS 24-105mm L IS U kit.

Make love to me, Canon EOS 5D Mark II. But you’ll never be the subtitute of my soul mate.

I’m back on terra firma. Currently in Labuan after a few trip from Miri to KK, a day after 6 months being offshore.

The port scenery is a welcoming view after months surrounded by the high seas and blue horizon.

The office back in KL was caught in fire yesterday. I’m glad no body is injured since it happened after office hour. Not sure about the property damaged and the extent of the losses. Only the 4th floor was on fire. The rest is ok.

I’m still stuck here, even at the end of the project. I’m anxiously waiting to get my flight ticket back “home”.

Someone is waiting for me.

Transient Solitude, Dithering Solutions

Let Down
By Radiohead

You know, you know where you are with
You know where you are with
Floor collapsing
Floating, bouncing back
And one day….
I am going to grow wings
A chemical reaction
Hysterical and useless
Hysterical and…

Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Let down and hanging around

Like Estragon and Vladimir, I’m forever Waiting for Godot. The faculty of anticipation bordering absurdity as the capacity of waiting withering.

Is it so hard to make one commitment to fill this epoch of time, when there’s absolutely no hindrance, no attachment to other place and at least a foresight of expecting to be near-presence of this locality?

One day off. Near and about. Silence.

I feel sorry for myself. I’m trying too hard to appease this facetious pantomime. Mouthing and jerking and twitching for semblance of plausible expression. I’m humouring my ill-humoured self with certainty with certain degree of sacrificing the prospect of my hectic life.

One day off the hectic life on this eventful day.

And I found myself thinking — aloud — Why?

Perhaps it’s time to be overtly apathetic. Curbing the liquidity of resources to bare minimum. Saying yes, to say no. To contradict myself, for my own benefit — not being selfish — rather, just to be self-aware.

I know, it’s not a promises. And you know it’s the day. Yet the day wasted with you in the familiarity of personal-comfort. I should know better, for someone who is used to normalcy, impromptu event sounds taboo.

Alright, my fault.

Man, I’m really easy to cave in, innit?

*tunneling out*

What a Piece of Work is a Man! (Hamlet 2.2)

Li.y (Dizzyli) recites Hamlet – Act 2, Scene 2 by William Shakespeare.

I have of late — but wherefore I know not — lost all my mirth, forgone all custom of exercises; and indeed it goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory, this most excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave o’erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire, why, it appears no other thing to me than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours. What a piece of work is a man! how noble in reason! how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? man delights not me: no, nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so.
