This week on 101 East; Malaysia has just seen it’s biggest protest for almost a decade, with tens of thousands marching to demand electoral reform.

Their call was met with tear-gas and water cannon.

So is there a need for fundamental change in the south-east Asian country or did the demonstrators get what they deserve?

Police in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur have used water cannons and fired tear gas to break up one of the country’s biggest anti-government rallies in nearly 10 years.

Tens of thousands of protesters marched in heavy rains to the king’s palace demanding electoral change.

Al Jazeera’s Hamish McDonald reports.
